Personal Profile

David Pasek is a Software and Infrastructure IT Architect and Visionary who programmed and sold his first commercial software at the age of 17, in 1991, when the world was not as dependent on IT as it is today. See. EXCHANGE-OFFICE-3.0

During his studies in Informatics at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Charles University in Prague, he not only focused on software programming but also recognized the transformative potential of the Internet. Since 1996, he has been among the pioneering technical staff at the very first commercial Internet provider in the Czech Republic, On Line (COL). At that time, COL offered Internet services under the Video On Line (VOL) brand, later rebranded as VOLny, meaning “FREE.” At COL, he took on multiple roles including webmaster, system administrator, database administrator, and system architect. He played a key role in developing and managing a fully automated billing and provisioning system. In 2000, Czech On Line was acquired by Austria Telecom for approximately 8.5 billion CZK ($382.5 million USD). See. IDNES1 and IDNES2.

In 1998, David founded the start-up company IDC-Softwarehouse, specializing in Internet applications. One of its most successful public projects was an online airline ticket reservation system, featured on web portals such as Letuska.cz, Letenky.cz, and hundreds more, not only in the Czech Republic but also across Central and Eastern Europe. Back in 2001, offering online air ticket booking was a visionary and challenging endeavor, which, 24 years later in 2025, may no longer seem as groundbreaking. These online solutions were always delivered as services, initially known as ASP (Application Service Providing) and today recognized as SaaS (Software as a Service), though the core concept remains the same. The online airline ticket reservation system, called GOL, was acquired in 2016 by Travelport GALILEO, the world’s leading global distribution system. See. TRAVELPORT-CZ and TRAVELPORT-COM.

Since 2006, David has specialized in virtualization and cloud-based data center technologies. He has worked as an individual technical contributor for several international companies, including Dell, Cisco, and VMware. He holds the highest certification in server virtualization - VMware Certified Design Expert (VCDX) - and has frequently served as lead architect or lead technical designer on numerous major projects both in the Czech Republic and internationally. Between 2010 and 2014, he played an active role in designing large-scale cloud infrastructures for prominent providers, including Cloud4Com and Telefonica O2 in the Czech Republic. See. PIB, O2, RFE / RL. David was technical co-founder of Cloud4com back in 2010. In 2023, Cloud4com was acquired by České Radiokomunikace for CZK 1.35 billion CZK  ($60.6 million USD). See. CRA.

David remains actively engaged and deeply passionate about the IT infrastructure business, with a particular focus on storage and network virtualization. While working on infrastructure projects and cloud environments, he reaffirmed that IT today is the cornerstone technology for 21st-century business. More importantly, businesses fundamentally require high-quality, modern, and highly available applications to thrive. This insight inspired David to launch a new software project, FlexBook, in 2014. FlexBook enables organizations to manage online reservations for resources, events, or services. Delivered as a B2B platform, it can be fully integrated into the websites of business partners and external web portals. Unlike typical SaaS offerings, FlexBook is designed to directly support and grow the customer’s digital business. Its monthly pricing is dynamic and tied to the success of the business partner, a model commonly known as “Revenue Sharing.” David believes this approach uniquely aligns the software provider’s incentives with the customer’s success, driving continuous improvement in software quality to boost revenue. This business model draws inspiration from Global Distribution Systems used for booking airline tickets, hotels, and rental cars across travel agencies and portals. However, FlexBook is a modern, distributed, and flexible platform, suitable for reserving any type of resource, event, or service.See. FLEXBOOK website.
Unfortunately, from a business perspective, the project was not very successful, as it required significantly more marketing and sales effort to achieve success.

Since 2024, David works for Cloud4com by Ceske Radiokomunikace as Datacenter Infrastructure Architect and Technical Designer.
